Easter At AFBC-Exhanging Sin for Righteousness

Apr 5, 2026    Pastor Chris Johnson

This Easter message centers on what Scripture calls the greatest exchange in history. Jesus trading His righteousness for our sin. Drawing from 2 Corinthians 5:17-21, we're reminded that when we are in Christ, we become new creations where the old has passed away and everything becomes new. The sermon illustrates this concept through a personal Christmas story about exchanging a red high-heeled shoe for a hundred-dollar bill, but then elevates our understanding to the infinitely more valuable exchange Christ made at the cross and through the empty tomb. Isaiah prophesied it, Paul explained it, and Peter confirmed it, Jesus bore our sins in His body so that we might receive His perfection, His peace, His joy, and His eternal home. The message challenges us with three penetrating questions: Have we thanked Him for this exchange? Are we still clinging to our old ways despite being sealed by new life? And are we serving as ambassadors of this exchange or keeping it privately to ourselves? We're called to walk in practical freedom from pride, lust, anger, shame, and worry by claiming what Christ has already accomplished. The resurrection wasn't just a historical event, it's the completion of our personal exchange, and our faith was never meant to be private but lived out boldly in community and shared with a world desperate for the same life-changing transaction.
