Psalm 145-Week 1

May 3, 2026    Pastor Chris Johnson

This powerful exploration of Psalm 145 invites us into a life of intentional, consistent, and personal praise. We discover that King David, despite his complicated past and imperfect nature, created nine Hebrew acrostic psalms, carefully crafted poems using each letter of the alphabet to ensure their importance would be remembered. Psalm 145 stands among these treasured works, reminding us that very imperfect people can give glory to a perfect God. The message challenges us to move beyond spontaneous praise to something deeper: waking up each day with the deliberate choice to extol our God and King. We're encouraged to set literal alarms on our phones, not because we lack sincerity, but because intentionality demonstrates how much something matters to us. Just as we set reminders for important tasks, setting a 'pause to pray' alarm twice daily creates sacred moments to declare God's goodness, His attributes, and His mighty works. The sermon beautifully illustrates that God is gracious, merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love—His greatness truly is unfathomable. Through the creative exercise of building our own praise acrostic from A to W, we're given a practical tool to develop a lifestyle of worship that transforms our hearts and points others to the greatness of our King.
